Wineries Near the Great Smoky Mountains
The Great Smoky Mountains have a lot to offer. You realized this early on, which is why you chose to spend your vacation here. You also realized that you wanted a great home base as you experience all that it has to offer, which is why you chose to spend your vacation at Valley River RV Resort. One experience you may have neglected is that of the amazing wineries in the region. That being the case, why don’t we look at a few of the local spots.
Valley River Vineyards & Winery
Our first foray into the vineyards begins with Valley River Vineyards, whose name is taken from the Valley River that makes its way between the Snowbird and Tusquitte mountain ranges. It is a family operated farm and produces wines from a variety of fruit. Their wines usually run from $12 to $16. While it does close seasonally, it is set to reopen March 2nd.
Nottely River Valley Vineyards
This family-owned and operated vineyard and winery opened in 2008. It emphasizes a minimal intervention system for the wine making process. They focus on Old World style wines that you’d find in Europe. Their latest addition is the Primitivo grape. While closed for the season, they will reopen in April, which is closer than the weather might make you think.
Fern Crest Winery
The owners developed the name from the location of their house and that they grow ferns. This is reflected in not only the name of the winery, but also its crest. You can even see the influence of ferns in the naming of their wines. Some of their wines have won silver and gold medals at the NC State Fair and Wine Maker’s Magazine’s International Amateur Competition. This winery will reopen in April.
