Spending time in North Carolina, particularly in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great way to enjoy some crisp, clean air in the most beautiful land ever imagined. There are several things to do in the area, but we can’t blame you if you start to want a little variety.

That’s fine, when you’re staying at the luxurious Valley River RV Resort, you’ve got options for variety. While we seem tucked away in the corner of the state, it just means that we’re near the border and this opens new possibilities.

Knoxville Day Trip

If you want to get to a bigger city and enjoy a different variety of the local flavor, you can’t go wrong with slipping over the border and spending time in Knoxville, TN. It’s a great location for a daytrip, being only about two hours away. Knoxville is the third largest city in Tennessee and was the first capital of the state.

During the middle of the 20th century the city went through a bit of a bad spell, but during the 1980s investment into helping reinvigorate the city has been highly successful. It is also the home of the University of Tennessee.

Tennessee Theatre

If you’re looking for a little bit of Broadway without actually having to visit New York, you can do Broadway in Knoxville. The first week of May they have Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at the Tennessee Theatre.

If you are more interested in music, they’re offering up The Temptation & The Four Tops on April 28th, but they’re low on tickets so you’ll want to get them fast. Another musical offering is Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, a traveling band of throwback minstrels who will put a vintage twist on modern pop hits.
